When it comes to social media, the biggest frustration I hear is that people don’t know what to say/post.
I’ve been there. We’ve all been there.
There is nothing worse than starting at a blank screen and trying to think of something witty ( or smart, or enlightened) to post. Watching that little cursor blink while you just wish you knew the right thing to post so you could get on with your day.
The key to successful social media is to post a variety of content and then (remember the O from EIEIO) look at the data to do more of what’s working – but taking it a step further – you need to always be testing. So even if something does not work today, you should try it again within the next few months.
So what types of content should you post?
This is what most people want to do: promote, promote, promote. You want traffic and sales, I get it, so I do want you to promote effectively and Caroline Onyedinma’s summit presentation on persuasive copy will ensure you’re prepared to deliver effective calls-to-action. But you don’t want to be overly promotional. So make sure you also include a balance of the other 2 types of content below.
You’ve probably heard it before, but I’m going to say it here again – you should always be delivering value to your audience.
How do you know what value they want and need? Attend Abby Herman's summit presentation to find out!
Does the concept of teaching someone else make you nervous – maybe you struggle with finding the words, or just feel unqualified to teach… Be sure to check out the summit presentation from Tracey Lewis Stoeckel on how to deliver educational content that sticks!
People want to do business with people – and the whole point of social media is to be SOCIAL – so you want to make sure you’re including some element of personal content within your marketing plan. The key to delivering personal info is to master storytelling (people LOVE stories) and Candice Davis has an amazing presentation at the Organic Marketing Summit on storytelling!
Once you have all 3 types of content…
The key to sharing your message across multiple platforms successfully is developing an omnipresence plan – so a system of chopping one piece of content into lots of little pieces of content.
Be sure to check out Stacia Kennedy’s presentation on organic omnipresence and content repurposing at the summit.
