Looking at your traffic referrals not only helps you figure out the types of content they like to read, that makes them want to click through, but you can also learn where most of your subscribers are coming from. You can learn more about how they found you, what they wanted when they found you, and about their hopes, dreams, and fears when you start digging deep into traffic referrals who are sending people who actually subscribe.
Subscribers are Worth More
A subscriber is someone who has added themselves to your list either by downloading a freebie, a content upgrade, just signing up, or by making a purchase. However they got on the list, they are now subscribers. As subscribers, they are generally more valuable than visitors that aren’t subscribers because by subscribing they’ve shown an interest in what you offer.
Go Deep into Your Traffic Sources
When you look at your referral traffic, look deeper into it to find out which source of traffic is producing the most subscribers. Go to that site, and study it. If it’s your own social media account, such as Pinterest or Instagram, that tells you that you should put even more time and effort creating relevant content for them there.
Affiliate Traffic
If it’s an affiliate who is sending you the most referral traffic, you may want to contact them and offer them additional help such as specialized graphics, content, and a higher percentage of sales. That way, they’ll work even harder for you.
Learn from Your Affiliate
Plus, if it is an affiliate, look at their site, their email lists, their community that they’ve built, and try to address what it is that your audience likes about them. Do you share the same audience characteristics? If so, you can look at the other things they offer to their audience and if anything relates to what you offer now, adjust and improve on what you’re offering to get more of the pie.
Track Deeply
By tracking as deeply as possible where the subscriber traffic is coming from, you can learn more about your audience. You’ll learn what else they’re reading, who they’re following, how the referrer encouraged them to sign up or click through. You’ll understand more about who the audience is and when you know that, you will be able to create even more relevant and effective content for them.
Making the most of where your subscribers are coming from includes offering the affiliate a higher percentage to encourage them to link to you more, adding more content to social sites that are sending more subscribers, and also by expanding the content you’ve already created, giving more touch points between you and your potential subscribers.
