The Notes
- Anna worked with children all her life, and it was only when she became a mother that she realized that it was parents who needed support. Although her ‘why’ never changed course from children, it was through helping parents that she was able to continue her focus on children.
- Anna not only had zero experience working for herself, but her family didn’t have any experience in entrepreneurship either. There was really only her uncle who had the entrepreneur bug, but he wasn’t successful in any of his ventures! But it was, when Anna was a child, watching him not only do what he wanted, but truly loving what he was doing. Add that to her rebel spirit, and when Anna became a mother; striking out on her own was a natural next step.
- Anna feels that becoming an entrepreneur was a very natural progression for her when she became a mother. She had helped her husband build his business a bit, and when she became a mother it helped to give her the confidence to build her own private practice as well.
- Anna didn’t have a full time job when she launched her practice, she had made the decision to stay home with her new child. She had created a mommy group in her neighborhood and it was through being shown the value of her expertise by the women in the mommy group, that she was inspired to create her practice.
- Anna’s first venture, a T-shirt company on Etsy, wasn’t successful. There were actually several ventures that were unsuccessful. Even at the outset, her support group was run out of her husband’s conference room at his work. Even though the group outgrew her husband’s conference room and she needed her own office space, Anna still had anxiety about the potential for success.
- Anna’s first priority with her business has always been her child and family, so she started her business very small and didn’t jump right in with both feet. Being clear on what you want in life is very important for Anna. Anna teaches and preaches that the first few formative years are so vitally important in a child’s life and she wanted to ensure that her new business would allow for her to be the mom not only that she wanted to be, but the kind of parent that she helps others to be as well.
- “Don’t kill yourself, get clear on your priorities. It’s a season…dedicate your time in that moment to the thing that matters. Trying to do everything at once you will feel anxiety, tension, you’ll feel like you don’t have time to be a good [parent] and not able to devote to your business either.” ~ Anna Seewald
